《屍毗王割肉餵鷹》

古印度有一位名為屍毗的國王，深信佛法，立志普渡眾生。一天，帝釋天與毗首羯摩為考驗他的慈悲心與堅定志向，分別化作老鷹與鴿子。老鷹緊追鴿子，欲將其吞食，鴿子驚恐萬分，無處可逃，只能飛至屍毗王處求助。屍毗王見狀，立誓保護鴿子，不讓其受害。然而，老鷹訴說若無法捕食鴿子，自己亦將餓死。屍毗王為拯救兩者，毅然割下自己的肉餵老鷹，但老鷹要求所割之肉必須與鴿子的重量相等。屍毗王割下自身血肉，交由秤盤稱量，卻始終無法達到鴿子的重量。最後，他決心以自身代替鴿子，便整個人坐上秤盤。屍毗王的無私與慈悲感動天地，帝釋天恢復原形，讚歎其品德，並以神力修復了屍毗王的身體。
《KING SIBI JATAKA》

In ancient India, there was a righteous king named Sibi, known for his unwavering devotion to the Buddhist teachings and his vow to save all living beings. One day, Indra, the king of gods, and Vishvakarma, the celestial architect, decided to test his compassion and resolve. They transformed into a hawk and a dove, respectively. The hawk relentlessly pursued the dove, which, in desperation, sought refuge with King Sibi.
Moved by the dove’s plight, King Sibi vowed to protect it from harm. However, the hawk protested, stating that if it could not eat the dove, it would starve to death. To save both lives, the king offered his own flesh as a substitute meal for the hawk. The hawk then demanded that the offered flesh weigh exactly the same as the dove. The king began cutting pieces of his own body and placing them on a scale, but no matter how much he gave, it did not match the dove’s weight.
Finally, determined to fulfill his vow, King Sibi climbed onto the scale himself, offering his entire body in place of the dove. His act of ultimate self-sacrifice moved the heavens. Indra revealed his true form, praising the king’s boundless compassion and selflessness. Using divine power, Indra restored the king’s body, leaving behind a tale of immense virtue and the power of selfless love that has been celebrated ever since.
